Mesozoic paleoenvironmental reconstruction
Mesozoic palaeoenvironmental reconstruction based on plant remains
To deeply understand the world year hundred millions ago we have to be familiar with the ancient floras. During the screen washing of the Iharkút material thousands of seeds and fruits were found. The detailed description of this material make possible to understand the vegetation of the locality while the high specimen number makes the statistical analysis possible. Based on the climatic requirements of the recent relatives the Cretaceous climatic conditions can be reconstructed. The preliminary studies suggest subtropical conditions and a gallery forest at the floodplain unit. Correct taxonomy is essential for these studies. For instance Emese Réka Bodor in collaboration with Professor Else Marie Friis was able to justify the tulip tree relationship of the Padragkutia haasii.
